| The Centre honoured 40 of the 190 police gallantry medals to Jammu & Kashmir police and CRPF/BSF personnel deployed in the Valley. In appreciation of the forces engaged in sustained counter-terror operations, two CRPF commandants were awarded Kirti Chakra for acts of bravery. At the same time, 52 personnel of Andhra Pradesh police, including Grey Hound commandos, were honoured with police gallantry medals for killing a record 24 Maoists in a single operation along the Andhra-Odisha border in October 2016. |
| Security has been beefed up in different part of New Delhi following intelligence inputs of terror strike on Independence Day. Security agencies have reportedly received an alert that there could be an attempt to hijack a small aircraft, or a helicopter, on the Independence day. As many as 50 cameras have been installed inside Red Fort and a no-fly zone has been put in place over Red Fort today. Even before receiving the alert, police had put in place a seven-layer cover with more than 25,000 men deployed at various positions. |
