Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie Abe arrived in Ahmedabad today on a two-day visit. Immediately after the welcome ceremony, Abe, his wife, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi set-off on an 8-km roadshow in an open-roof jeep for the Sabarmati Ashram where Mahatma Gandhi spent considerable time of his life. Tomorrow, Abe and Modi will lay the foundation stone for the high-speed train project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai which is expected to be completed by 2022.

Police arrested the IT head of the Dera Sacha Sauda for allegedly tampering with computers at the Dera’s headquarters. “Police seized 60 hard disks on the information provided by accused Vineet Kumar,” Sirsa superintendent of police Ashwin Shenvi said. During investigations, it came to light that the Dera authorities had changed several hard disks before the search operation at its headquarters in Sirsa, he said.
The Karnataka government dismissed reports of ‘preferential treatment’ being given to V K Sasikala at the Bengaluru central jail. “There is no truth in reports suggesting that Sasikala and (her relative) Elavarasi have been given preferential treatment at the prison. I had been there yesterday and I saw it for myself,” state Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy said. He said the two, serving imprisonment in a corruption case, were being treated like any other ordinary prisoners.

The Bombay high court adjourned till Thursday morning, the hearing in the anticipatory bail plea filed by Ryan International School trustees. Augustine Pinto, founder of Ryan group of schools, and his wife Grace Pinto had moved court for transit anticipatory bail on Monday, three days after a seven-year-old student was found murdered at Ryan International School in Gurugram. Meanwhile, their son Ryan Pinto has also moved the high court. His plea has been tagged with his parents’ and will be heard along with theirs on Thursday now.

International pressure has been growing on Myanmar to end the violence in the western state of Rakhine that has forced about 3,70,000 Rohingya Muslims to flee to Bangladesh.
