After China put up a roadblock for proscribing Masood Azhar by the UNSC, India and US are mulling options for their next steps. In December, Indian and US officials will meet for the first time for a dialogue on coordinating terrorist designations by both countries. The two sides will discuss options of keeping terrorists and terror groups like Jaish-e-Muhammad under pressure. The safest state to be a woman in India is Goa, followed by Kerala, Mizoram, Sikkim and Manipur, the gender vulnerability index (GVI) has revealed. States where women and girls are the most vulnerable are Bihar, Jharkhand, UP and Delhi. The findings of the first-ever GVI are expected to help identify the challenges women face with respect to four parameters – education, health, poverty and protection against violence – and assist policy makers mark out priorities. The report was prepared by Plan India and released by the women and child development ministry yesterday.
The Supreme Court has asked the Centre to furnish in four weeks details of steps taken to implement the Solid Waste Management Rules across the country. The bench referred to an affidavit filed by the directorate general of health services (DGHS) which said various vector-borne diseases, including dengue, were widespread in different parts of India because of absence of solid waste management. “It appears (to us) that the crucial issue is really the management of solid waste. Accordingly, we propose to limit this petition only to the issue of management of solid waste,” the bench said, adding that the Centre had started enforcing Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 from April 8 last year.

The ministry released draft rules for drone use which, on the one hand allow children to fly small drones (weighing less than 250 grams) without registering them or requiring a licence for them. Two men were killed and a woman was injured in a shooting inside a suburban Denver Walmart in Colorado. Thornton police tweeted on Wednesday night that they were responding to a shooting with “multiple parties down.” They advised people to stay away from the area as dozens of emergency vehicles converged at the store. Multiple people described hiding in the Walmart before being evacuated by police. Investigators have not released any details about the circumstances of the shooting or the condition of the injured woman.
