As many as 100 bridges across India are on the verge of collapse and need immediate attention, said Union minister Nitin Gadkari. The startling information came to light after the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways conducted a safety audit of 1.6 lakh bridges in which more than 100 structures were found to be in an unsound state. “These 100 bridges can collapse anytime and need immediate attention,” Gadkari said in the Lok Sabha.

The SC today allowed the use of the NOTA option in the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls in Gujarat. The apex court said that the use of the None of the above (NOTA) option is a constitutional issue which needs to be debated. It asked the Election Commission to respond in two weeks to the Congress petition disallowing NOTA. The top court has set September 18 as the date to hear detailed arguments on the issue.

The I-T raids on various properties linked to Karnataka minister DK Shivakumar continued for the second consecutive day.
