Unidentified armed men abducted six Indians in Afghanistan’s Baghlan province today. The incident happened in Bagh-e-Shamal village of the provincial capital Pul-e-Khomre, TOLO news reported, citing local officials. The six Indians and one Afghan employee of an Indian infrastructure company, KEC, were abducted while travelling to the area, where the company owns an electricity sub-station contract. Five terrorists, including a Kashmir University professor, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian today. The professor, who had reportedly gone missing on Friday, has been identified as Mohammad Rafi Bhat. Top Hizb terrorist Saddam Padder is also believed to be among the slain terrorists. Clashes broke out between civilians and security forces in Shopian, Pulwama and other parts of South Kashmir following the encounter of five terrorists. Five civilians were killed in the clashes.
Printing of Rs 500 notes has been ramped-up to about Rs 3,000 crore everyday to take care of extra demand, economic affairs secretary Subhash Chandra Garg has said. Garg said the cash situation in India is “quite comfortable” and extra demand is being fully met. The fundamentals of economy does not call for an interest rate hike at the moment as there has not been any “disproportionate rise in inflation” or “extra ordinary growth in output,” the economic affairs secretary said.

Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani’s daughter Isha Ambani will tie the knot with Anand Piramal, son of businessman Ajay Piramal, in December this year. Anand recently proposed to his long-time friend Isha at a temple in Mahabaleshwar. The couple celebrated the occasion in the company of their parents and other family members, including Isha’s twin brother Akash and younger brother Anant. Isha, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Yale University, is on the boards of Reliance Jio and Reliance Retail.
North Korea said today its intention to denuclearise was not the result of US-led sanctions and pressure. North Korea’s official KCNA news agency said Washington was “misleading public opinion” by claiming that the denuclearisation pledge was the result of sanctions and other pressure. The United States should not “deliberately provoke” the North by moving to deploy strategic assets in South Korea and raising human rights issues, KCNA said, citing a foreign ministry spokesperson.
