China’s parliament passed an amendment abolishing a presidential two-term limit that will enable Xi Jinping to rule indefinitely. The amendment also inserted Xi’s personal political philosophy into the preamble of the constitution and phrasing that emphasizes the leadership of the ruling Communist Party. Since taking over the Communist Party in 2012, Xi has steadily tightened his grip on virtually all aspects of the party and state apparatus.

Over 30,000 farmers have reached Mumbai on Sunday with a series of demands including complete loan waiver. The farmers are planning to troop into south Mumbai on Monday and gherao the state assembly to demand a complete loan waiver, remunerative prices for agricultural produce and implementation of Swaminathan Commission recommendations among others.

An Islamic seminary student hurled a shoe at Pakistan’s former prime minister Nawaz Sharif today.
