Supreme Court declared invalid all engineering degrees since 2001 obtained through correspondence courses. The court observed that AICTE did not approve distance learning programmes in engineering studies and the approval granted by the Distance Education Council for such courses was illegal. It directed a CBI probe against officials who permitted four universities to run programmes since 2001.
The boiler at NTPC’s Unchahar plant exploded even as it was being repaired, a probe revealed. NTPC engineers got a hint of a snag in the ash evacuation system around 2pm, and generation was brought down from 400MW to 190MW. The situation aggravated after boulders of ash got stuck in the evacuation system, raising the pressure and causing the blast, an official said.

A case has been filed against actor Kamal Haasan in Varanasi for his controversial remarks. He has been booked under several Sections of IPC, for hurting religious sentiment, intend to outrage religious feelings and other charges. NHAI has issued show cause notice to several infrastructure companies over default in highway projects. Notices were served to L&T, Gammon India, HCC and several other companies, asking why they should not be barred from bidding for highway projects for 2-3 years. 20 projects executed by these companies were terminated for builders’ ‘default’.
