India’s biggest automakers and retailers announced discounts today as the new GST tax regime came into effect. Maruti dropped prices on some models by up to 3 per cent, passing the “entire benefit of GST rates” to customers. Hypermarket Big Bazaar announced discounts of 2 per cent to 22 per cent on groceries and household supplies in 26 states while fashion portal Myntra also announced price cuts.

Top LeT terrorist Bashir Lashkari was gunned down today by security forces in Kashmir. The opposition’s presidential nominee Meira Kumar said that she is not a ‘scapegoat’ in the upcoming election. Asked why she was contesting when the numbers were in favour of BJP-backed candidate Ram Nath Kovind, a visibly-irked Kumar replied: “This is the same question that I am asked everywhere. Why have an election if the winner is already decided?”
The I-T department has introduced a one-page form to manually apply for linking Aadhaar with PAN. The taxpayers can also link their Aadhaar with Pan through a mobile-based SMS facility, by logging on to the website of PAN service providers like NSDL and UTIITSL or on the e-filing website of the tax department.
