Phone calls are likely to be even cheaper as TRAI is planning to reduce interconnect usage charges. Interconnect usage charges (IUC) is the fee mobile operators pay each other for connecting calls. At present IUC stand at 14 paise per minute. Jio has described IUC as an “artificial barrier created by incumbent operators with legacy technologies. However, older companies like Airtel, Vodafone and Idea earn thousands of crores of rupees from it and want it raised further.

Supreme Court has restrained subordinate courts from granting interim anticipatory bail. Expressing disapproval of the practice of trial courts giving regular bail to accused on the basis of higher courts’ order to grant interim anticipatory bail, the Supreme Court said that trial court’s order granting bail to accused would virtually make the higher court’s order infructuous if it finally decided to withdraw the interim protection given to accused by dismissing plea for anticipatory bail.
