Govt delegated greater financial powers to Border Roads Organization to improve infrastructure. The decision was taken amid a face-off between the armies of India and China at Doklam. Of the 73 “strategic roads” identified for construction along the LAC, only 27 have been completed in over 15 years. Besides, the construction of 14 “strategic railway lines” for the western and eastern fronts remains a mere pipedream. In sharp contrast, China has built an extensive network of railway lines, highways, metal-top roads, air bases, radar, logistics hubs, and other infrastructure in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The IIT Joint Admission Board has announced that the JEE (Advanced) will be completely online from next year. Errors in this year’s question paper has prompted the change, though the candidates in 2018 are likely to continue to have the option of taking either the online or written version of the JEE (Mains). Officials said an online test will help prevent mistakes and also avert situations like those encountered last year, when the JAB reportedly gave 18 bonus marks to candidates who took the JEE Advanced because of printing and translation errors in the question paper.
