The Income Tax department attached benami assets worth Rs 3,500 crore since November 2016. The assets included immovable properties across the country worth Rs 2,900 crores. As per regulations, the IT department can confiscate benami property and prosecute the owner. This provision was made in more than 900 cases which included plots of land, flats, shops, jewellery, vehicles, deposits in bank accounts, fixed deposits.
Fertility rate has dropped below replacement levels in all religious communities except for among Hindus and Muslims. According to the National Health Survey of 2015-16, the community with the lowest fertility rate of 1.2 was the Jain community. This community also has the highest level of education. The Jains was followed by Sikhs (1.6), Buddhists or Neo Buddhists (1.7) and Christians (2). The fertility rate for Muslim households fell to 2.6 from 3.4. Among Hindus, it fell to 2.1 from 2.8, said the survey. India’s overall fertility rate was 2.2.

The Maldives has emphasised that it has committed the highest priority to its relationship with India.
