The Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhaar and its enabling 2016 law. A five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra directed all the parties concerned to file their written submissions to put forth their case. The judgment was reserved after a marathon hearing which went on for 38 days spanning four months. Read more

Justice J Chelameswar has written a letter to the Chief Justice of India on the elevation of Justice KM Joseph. Justice Chelameswar has asked CJI to convene a meeting of the collegium to urgently forward to the Centre the name of Uttarakhand Chief Justice KM Joseph as the judge of the apex court. Justice Chelameswar, who retires on June 22, has responded to all the points raised in the communication to the CJI by law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad expressing reservations on the elevation of Justice Joseph.
BJP president Amit Shah today slammed the Congress over the recovery of thousands of allegedly fake voter ID cards in Karnataka. “The voter ID scandal shows how desperate Congress is to win the elections. They are resorting to undemocratic ways to win elections,” Shah said after wrapping up his campaign for the Karnataka polls. “I would like to appeal to those who have fake voter ID cards to not come under the trap laid by the Congress party and should stay away from filthy election tactics adopted by them,” he said.

The Supreme Court has set aside the Calcutta high court order directing the West Bengal election commission (SEC) to accept nominations of candidates for contesting panchayat polls that were filed through email. The bench said panchayat elections that are scheduled for May 14 will go on unhindered and the SEC and the state government will ensure “free and fair” polls. The court, however, expressed concern about nearly 20,000 panchayat seats going to the ruling Trinamool Congress without a contest and asked the SEC to not issue a notification declaring these results till July 3.
Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal today posted an emotional farewell message on Facebook, saying he wants to get back to basics. Sachin, who is exiting the Bengaluru-based company post the Walmart deal, plans to catch up on gaming and brush up his coding skills as he takes time off to finish few pending personal projects. US retailer Walmart Inc yesterday acquired 77 per cent stake in Flipkart for about $16 billion in its biggest acquisition till date.
