| The Indian Navy today cheekily let China’s naval force know, ‘we see you on the Indian Ocean’. It did that by tweeting a “warm welcome” to three warships of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (Navy) (PLA-N)) that entered the Indian Ocean region (IOR). The Indian Navy followed its welcome tweet to another tweet that showed a map of its warships on vigil 24/7 to keep our ‘Area of Responsibility’ safe. Read more |

| The Law Commission of India today recommended the Centre to include the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. “When all other national sport federations are covered under RTI Act, why not BCCI,” Law Commission asked, and added that BCCI exercises state like powers affecting the fundamental rights of the stakeholders, guaranteed under Part III of the Constitution. If the government accepts the commission’s recommendations, anyone can file PILs in the Supreme Court or High Courts questioning the selection of players representing India, states and zones. |

| The Income Tax (I-T) Department has cautioned salaried class taxpayers against using illegal means while filing their returns. Stating that the violators will be prosecuted and their employers will be intimated to take action against them, the Central Processing Centre (CPC) of the department in Bengaluru, that receives and processes the Income Tax Returns (ITRs), issued an advisory specifying such taxpayers should not “fall prey” to unscrupulous tax advisors or planners who help them in preparing wrong claims to get tax benefits. |
| President Ram Nath Kovind today condemned the horrific Kathua gangrape-murder and wondered what kind of society India was developing into. “After 70 years of independence such an incident occurring in any part of the country is shameful. We have to think what kind of society are we developing. It is our responsibility to ensure such a thing does not happen to any girl or woman,” the President said in an address at the sixth convocation of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. |
