A woman shot and wounded four people at YouTube’s headquarters in California before killing herself. Officers and federal agents swarmed the company’s complex in the Bay Area city of San Bruno after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire. Television news footage showed people leaving the building in a line, holding their arms in the air. San Francisco General Hospital received three patients: a 36-year-old man in critical condition, a 32-year-old woman in serious condition and a 27-year-old woman in fair condition, a spokesman said. The Maldives has snubbed India again and returned a gifted naval helicopter. A top Maldives government source told TOI that Male wanted a Dornier maritime surveillance aircraft instead of the “Dhruv” Advanced Light Helicopter which India had given Male. The Supreme Court has said that Article 370 of the Constitution, conferring special status to Jammu & Kashmir, has acquired permanent status. The apex court said that the Article that limits the Central government’s power to make laws for the state had acquired permanent status through years of existence, making its abrogation impossible. The observation came from a bench of Justices Adarsh K Goel and R F Nariman on a petition that sought a declaration that Article 370 is a temporary provision that lapsed with the dissolution of the J&K Constituent Assembly on January 26, 1957.

The Supreme Court has refused to stay its SC/ST Act order, saying that the innocent must be protected. A bench of the court clarified that its judgment applied only to cases registered under the SC/ST Act and if any offence committed under the Act also involved transgressions under the Indian Penal Code, like disrobing, tonsuring, physical violence or arson, then there was no bar on immediate registration of an FIR. The court was hearing a plea by the Centre seeking an interim stay on the SC’s March 20 order.
