India slammed Pakistan at the UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva and denounced is as a ‘failed state’. India denounced Pakistan as a “failed state” where terrorists thrive, and demanded that it bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai, Pathankot and Uri attacks to justice. “We await credible action by the Government of Pakistan to bring all those involved in the 2008 Mumbai attack and the 2016 Pathankot and Uri attacks to justice,” Mini Devi Kumam, a second secretary at the India’s UN Mission in Geneva, said. India and France today inked 14 pacts in key areas of defence, security and nuclear energy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while issuing a joint statement with French president Emmanuel Macron, said, “From the ground to the sky, there is no subject on which India and France are not working together. The bilateral cooperation between India and France includes the spheres of defence, space, high technology.”
The existing system of filing GST returns has been extended by another three months, finance minister Arun Jaitley said. The council could not decide on a simplified GST return form and entrusted the Group of Ministers (GoM) under Sushil Modi to chalk out a single-page form which is simpler and evasion-proof. “The council felt that there should be single return every month, it should be simple, not prone to evasion. The existing system has been extended by three months,” Jaitley said.
Suresh Joshi, popularly known as ‘Bhaiyyaji’ was today re-elected as RSS national general secretary. Joshi, who as general secretary ran the day-to-day affairs of the RSS, has held the post for nine years in a row. His re-election today ensures that he will hold the post for an additional three years. The announcement was made on the second of the three-day meeting of the RSS’s Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS), which was inaugurated by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in Nagpur.
As many as 32 crore Aadhaar numbers have been linked to voter ID cards, Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat said. Asked how long it would take to link another 54.5 crore Aadhaar numbers, CEC Rawat said, “We did 32 crore in just three months”. Karnataka-based Mathew Thomas had moved the apex court in November challenging the constitutional validity of the Aadhaar Act claiming that it infringes upon the Right to Privacy and the biometric mechanism was not working properly.
