The US is planning to impose stricter restrictions on the issuance of H-1B visas. According to the website of an international immigration firm, the US’s homeland security department has signalled that it may revive a 2011 proposal that would require H-1B petitioners to preregister for the H-1B cap lottery. They would also have to submit cap petitions only after they have won cap numbers. This will have an impact on the Indian IT sector which is the largest user of H-1B non-immigrant visas. READ

India’s crime statistics are deceptively low because cities’ population data isn’t regularly updated. The National Crime Records Bureau doesn&rsquo;t change the population of cities between censuses that only take place every 10 years. As a result, the crime rate in cities appears to fall sharply once in 10 years. The women and child development ministry has received nearly 30 lakh fake ‘beti bachao’ forms. According to the ministry, poor people are being told that filling an application form makes them eligible for a Rs 2 lakh cash incentive to have a girl child. However, there is no such incentive. The biggest surge in fake forms has been observed in Himachal Pradesh.

India plans to seek the provisional arrest of Islamic preacher Zakir Naik who is believed to be in Malaysia. The National Investigation Agency also plans to submit a fresh plea to <a href=”https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/nia-set-to-seek-zakir-naiks-provisional-arrest-in-malaysia/articleshow/62236072.cms”>Interpol</a> on Tuesday for a red corner notice against Naik, who has been granted &lsquo;permanent residency&rsquo; in Malaysia. Naik has been charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for heading the Islamic Research Foundation which was declared &#39;unlawful&#39; in 2016.
India national Kulbhushan Jadhav, who’s in jail in Pakistan, is scheduled to meet his wife and mother today. The duo will arrive in Islamabad by a commercial flight and leave the same day after the meeting, said the Pakistan Foreign Office. India’s deputy high commissioner J P Singh will accompany the visitors to the meeting.
