Congress swept the elections for municipal corporations in Patiala, Amritsar and Jalandhar. The highest poll percentage of over 62.22% was registered in Patiala, the assembly constituency of chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh. Singh hailed the poll results as a “clear indication of the Congress policies. The Congress won in 20 out of 29 municipal councils and nagar panchayats.
Cancellation charges for ‘cheap’ domestic air tickets will no longer be a flat Rs 3,000. However, domestic travellers, whose base fare and fuel surcharges combined is more than Rs 3,000, will continue paying that as a cancellation fee. The change in rule comes after aviation minister Jayant Sinha recently voiced concern over the flat Rs 3,000 domestic cancellation fee being too high.

Government has decided to make e-way bill mandatory for inter-state movement of goods from February 1. This will replace all transit pass systems that individual states follow and bring uniformity across states for seamless movement of cargo. The intra-state e-way bill system will be effective from June 1. The GST Council had decided that the nationwide e-way bill system will be ready to be rolled out on a trial basis latest by January 16.
Rs 167 crore was deposited in Airtel Payment Bank without the ‘consent’ 31.21 lakh customers. The discovery that subsidy amounts for LPG were being deposited in these accounts has led to officials suggesting that it would be appropriate if the sums were returned to the customers. The amounts were collected in an improper fashion and in violation of Unique Identification Authority of India norms.
