It also halted play for sometime, 30 minutes into the post-lunch session, after some Lankan players complained of breathing trouble. Iran’s strategic Chabahar port, build with India’s participation, was formally inaugurated today. The port will allow trade with Afghanistan and other Central Asian countries, bypassing Pakistan. It will also rival the Gwadar port in Pakistan, some 80 kilometres away, being built with Chinese investments. In October, India shipped its first cargo of wheat to Afghanistan through Chabahar.
Consumers may soon be able to choose their power suppliers, pending an amendment to the Electricity Act. The power ministry will push the amendment in the Budget session, which provides for segregating the distribution network and electricity supply businesses. “Monopoly will be eliminated in supply wing by giving franchise to more than one players in an electricity supply area,” Union power minister RK Singh said.

A ‘supermoon’ will enthrall stargazers tonight, with the lunar disc appearing 7% larger and 15% brighter. NASA said that Sunday’s supermoon is first in a series of three. The next two will appear on January 1 and 31, 2018. In 2016, the Moon made its closest approach to Earth since 1948. It won’t be that close again until November 25, 2034.
357 fishermen, including 71 from Tamil Nadu, stranded in sea due to Cyclone Ockhi, were rescued today. Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard also rescued 248 from Kerala and 38 from Lakshadweep islands, defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman said. The Navy deployed six ships, two fixed wing aircraft and two helicopters in Kerala while the Air Force deployed one aircraft and two helicopters for Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
