The GST Council decided to reduce tax rate on a wide range of mass use items. The 23rd GST Council meeting was held today in Guwahati under the chairmanship of Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. The finance ministers of at least 24 states of the country participated in the meeting. The council pruned the list of items attracting the top 28 per cent tax rate to just 50 from 227 previously. India and China are expected to hold next round of talks on border issues next month. The border talks will be held between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and China’s State Councillor Yang Jiechi. Besides Doklam, a host of issue including differences between the two countries over the $50 billion China- Pakistan Economic Corridor are expected to figure in the talks. This will be highest-level border talk after Xi began his second term as the chief of the ruling Communist party and also the first since Doklam standoff resolution.
Trump praised India’s growth story and PM Modi at APEC Summit in Vietnam. Trump praised India’s “astounding” growth after it opened its economy and also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he has been working successfully to bring the vast country and its people together. Speaking at a gathering of CEOs on the sidelines of the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Vietnam, Trump said that countries outside of the grouping were also making “great strides in this new chapter for the Indo-Pacific”.

The Supreme Court refused to entertain plea seeking a stay on the release of ‘Padmavati’. The bench was hearing a plea filed by Siddharajsinh Mahavirsinh Chudasama and 11 others against the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed ‘Padmavati‘ which stars Deepika Pdukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. The film is likely to hit theatres on December 1. Besides seeking a stay on the release, the plea has also sought setting up of a committee of eminent historians to check the veracity of the script to prevent any inaccuracy in portrayal of Rani Padmavati.
BCCI said anti-doping body NADA has no jurisdiction to conduct dope tests on Indian cricketers. In a letter to NADA, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri made it clear that there is no requirement for NADA to tests its cricketers since the board is not a National Sports Federation (NSF) and its present anti-doping system is robust enough. The Ministry had stated that lack of co-operation from BCCI on the subject may run the risk of NADA not complying with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code.
