The India women’s hockey team qualified for the World Cup after overcoming China in a nail-biting Asia Cup final. It was 1-1 at full time after China found a late equaliser through Tiantian Luo, who converted a penalty corner in the 47th minute. India had scored through Navjot Kaur in the 25th minute of the game. The triumph of the Indian women’s team follows the Asia Cup victory of the men’s side last month.

The GST Council may consider lowering tax rates on a host of common use goods in its meeting this week. The Council, headed by finance minister Arun Jaitley, is scheduled to meet on November 10 to consider lowering of the 28 per cent GST rate on certain common use items, government officials said. The GST Council, which comprises of representatives of all states, have already rationalised tax rates for over 100 items.
At least 12 people drowned in two separate incidents in Vaishali and Samastipur districts of Bihar today. While nine people out for a picnic died after falling into the Ganga river in Vaishali, three women drowned in the Baghmati river when a boat capsised in Samastipur district, said police.

At least 75 civilians were killed in an Islamic State group car bombing that struck a gathering of displaced people in Syria. Saturday’s attack in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor killed “at least 75 displaced civilians including children” and wounded 140, said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad has arrested suspected ISIS terrorist Abu Zaid from the Mumbai Airport. “Abu Zaid, suspected ISIS terrorist was arrested by the ATS team from Mumbai Airport yesterday after he came from Saudi Arabia,” ADG (Law and order) Anand Kumar said.
He said Zaid was residing in Riyadh and formed a social media group to allegedly radicalise youths and lure them to ISIS.
