| The Allahabad High Court has acquitted Rajesh & Nupur Talwar in the murder of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj in 2008. A division bench of the court upheld the appeals by the Talwars against the Ghaziabad CBI court order sentencing them to life imprisonment on November 26, 2013, saying they could not be held guilty on the basis of the evidence on record. | The Himachal Pradesh Assembly election will be held on November 9, the Election Commission (EC) said today. Counting of votes will be held on December 18, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Achal Kumar Jyoti said, adding that assembly elections in Gujarat will take place before December 18. “This will enable simultaneous counting in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat,” the CEC said. The term of the 68-member Himachal Assembly ends on January 7. |
| The issue of bringing real estate under the GST ambit will be discussed next month, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said. “The one sector in India where maximum amount of tax evasion and cash generation takes place and which is still outside the GST is real estate. Some of the states have been pressing for it. I personally believe that there is a strong case to bring real estate into the GST,” Jaitley said, adding that the move would benefit the consumers who will only have to pay one “final tax” on the whole product. |

| The Supreme Court has agreed to examine a plea to regulate app based transport services for offences committed by vehicle drivers. The apex court has asked the central government to examine and respond on how internet based transport services like Ola and Uber should be regulated. The hearing is scheduled to take place on December 7. The Delhi High Court had last year directed all app-based cab aggregators to furnish driver details and get their records verified by police. |
| US President Donald Trump has “lit the wick of war” with North Korea, foreign minister Ri Yong Ho has said. Speaking to Russia’s state-run TASS news agency, Yong Ho said his country’s nuclear program guaranteed peace and safety in the region and would not be a matter of discussion. “With his bellicose and insane statement at the United Nations, Trump has lit the wick of a war against us. We need to settle the final score, only with a hail of fire, not words,” Yong said. |
