| A suspected al-Qaeda operative, who had come to India to allegedly train and radicalise Rohingyas, was arrested yesterday. The special cell of Delhi Police has arrested 28-year-old Samiun Rahman who was allegedly setting up base in Delhi, Mizoram, and Manipur to radicalise and recruit Rohingya refugees to wage war against India as well as to fight the Myanmar army. |
| Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that the fuel prices may come down by Diwali. The announcement comes amid criticism by opposition parties of a sharp rise in oil prices after the daily rate revision mechanism was introduced by the government recently. The oil minister said that the prices went up because production of oil dropped by 13 per cent in the US due to floods. |

| The brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Iqbal Kaskar, was arrested yesterday on charges of extortion. The police said that Kaskar had been threatening builders on behalf of Dawood Ibrahim and was demanding huge extortion money as a cut for his brother. Sources said that one of the complainants was tired of Kaskar’s threats and approached Thane police. |
