The United Nations Human Rights Council slammed India for seeking to deport 40,000 Rohingyas. “India cannot carry out collective expulsions, or return people to a place where they risk torture or other serious violations,” United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said. The Bangladesh government, on the other hand, urged India to convince the Myanmar government to end violence against Rohingyas.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh said security forces have been told to send first-time young stone-pelters to rehabilitation homes, instead of lock-ups. In a significant outreach to the Kashmiris, “I will come to Kashmir not five, but 50 times a year if the need arises. The Centre may tweak the definition of transgender persons to shift the focus from “biological test” to the individual’s exclusive freedom to choose their gender. The Union social justice ministry has agreed with the strong argument of the parliamentary panel that a transgender not be defined through biological features, and have the right to choose their gender.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat pitched for changes in the Constitution and jurisprudence in line with the value systems of the country. “Our Constitution was written based on the understanding of the ‘Bharatiya‘ ethos of our founding fathers, but many of the laws that we are still using are based on foreign sources and were made as per their thinking. Seven decades have passed since our independence… this is something we must address,” Bhagwat said.
