Railway minister Suresh Prabhu today took full moral responsibility for the recent train accidents. Indicating that he has offered to quit, Prabhu said he is “extremely pained” by the two train derailments in Uttar Pradesh, one on Wednesday and the other last week. He said that he met PM Narendra Modi and took full moral responsibility for the mishaps, adding that the Prime Minister has asked him to “wait”.

The government will soon set up a commission to examine the sub categorisation of backward communities in the central list. The proposed commission will examine the extent of inequitable distribution of benefits of reservation among caste and communities, including the broad categories of OBCs included in the central list, finance minister Arun Jaitley said.
The SC today dismissed Sasikala’s plea seeking review of her conviction in a disproportionate assets case. The apex court also rejected the AIADMK leader’s plea for an open court hearing of the review petitions. The apex court said it does not find any error in its verdict and therefore, the case does not merit review.

The SC has sought an explanation from the BCCI as to why the Lodha reforms have not been implemented so far. The apex court issued show cause notice to BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and asked him to personally appear before it on September 19 to explain the issue. The SC expressed displeasure over its directions on the Justice Lodha panel report not being implemented so far.
The Reserve Bank of India will issue Rs 200 notes in a bid to avoid the possibility of an illegal trade of currency notes.
The RBI is likely to put the proposed Rs 200 bank notes in circulation by the end of August or in the first week of September. It is also building a stack of about 50 crore notes of the new denomination so there is no scarcity or possibility of illegal trade.
