| Ram Nath Kovind, the 71-year-old former BJP member, will take oath as the 14th President of India. Chief Justice of India Justice J S Khehar will administer the oath of office, after which Kovind will exchange the chair with outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee. Kovind will take a buggy ride from Rashtrapati Bhavan to Parliament along with Mukherjee.

| Censor Board chairman Pahlaj Nihalani, who has been at the centre of several controversies, could be on his way out. A meeting of CBFC members has been called by Nihalani in Thiruvananthapuram on July 28. The ministry of information and broadcasting sources said it has been indicated to Nihalani that he might be replaced. Among the names that could be in consideration to replace Nihalani are filmmaker Prakash Jha and TV producer-actor Chandraprakash Dwivedi.

| The Centre is planning to come up with an LPG-like subsidy transfer scheme for PDS foodgrain. The beneficiaries will get the subsidy amount in advance in their bank accounts and they will have to buy the foodgrains from any ration shop, which has got the electronic point of sale devices. A pilot project is likely to be rolled out in Ranchi. This initiative will ensure zero leakage of the subsidy and foodgrain as well.

| The Supreme Court on Monday indicated it was open to relaxing its order directing BCCI to accept the Justice Lodha panel’s recommendations in full. The significant areas in which the Supreme Court indicated its willingness to rethink are reduction in the number of national selectors to three from five, restricting the appointment of selectors to players who have played Tests, the one-state one-vote norm and the associate membership criteria.
