West Bengal and Kerala decided to reject the ban on sales of animals for slaughter in markets. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the state government will move to the Supreme Court against the notification, recently issued by the Centre. Kerala CM has written to all chief ministers to oppose the new regulations. Puducherry, Meghalaya and Nagaland are also against the move.

​CBI registered three FIRs against UPA government’s purchase of 111 aircraft for Air India and Indian Airlines at a cost of Rs 70,000 crore. CBI officials said the original proposal was to buy a total of 28 planes for Air India and Indian Airlines. But the government finally decided to buy 68 for Air India from Boeing, and another 43 for Indian Airlines from Airbus.
The southwest monsoon is “most likely” to hit the Kerala coast and northeast India simultaneously today. Monsoon’s early push into the northeast, where the rain system normally arrives a few days after its onset over Kerala, is being aided by cyclone Mora, currently moving north from the Bay of Bengal. A warning has also been sounded for fishermen not to venture into the sea off West Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Over 9 lakh chemists across the country are observing a day-long strike protesting against new regulations on the sale of medicines. However, emergency service pharmacies in and around hospitals will remain open, Sandeep Nangia, president, Retail Distributors Chemists Association. “The government refused to listen to us all this while and did not even give us an appointment. Now, just hours before the strike they called us. We cannot call off the strike on such short notice and without any assurance,” Nangia said.
CBI court will frame charges against senior BJP leaders LK Advani, MM Joshi, Uma Bharti in the Babri Masjid case today. They were to appear on May 25 and 26, but all the 12 accused sought exemption. Then the court called all of them on May 30, cautioning them that no further exemption would be allowed. All of them were named in the FIR filed after the demolition of Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992 for allegedly instigating the mob and conspiracy behind the razing of the disputed structure.
