BSE Sensex soared to a record close of 30,248 and Nifty breached 9,400 in a historic first. Forecast of a good monsoon buoyed investor sentiments at the bourses today. India going to International Court of Justice over the Kulbhushan Jadhav issue has taken Pakistan by surprise. India took advantage of a loophole in international law to institute a one-off case against Pakistan on Jadhav. Both countries being signatories to the Vienna Convention, India was able to use Pakistan’s repeated denial of consular access to Jadhav to push its case.
Sacked AAP minister Kapil Mishra was attacked by an alleged AAP supporter on Wednesday evening. Mishra was sitting on a hunger strike at his home in Delhi when the incident happened. The assailant repeatedly slapped Mishra before being restrained by bystanders. He was then taken into police custody. Mishra has blamed the AAP for the attack.

The Supreme Court has directed the government to ‘secure and ensure’ the presence of Vijay Mallya on July 10. The apex court will hold hearing on the quantam of punishment for contempt of court, in which Mallya, currently residing in UK, has been pronounced guilty. Mallya disobeyed court orders by not disclosing full particulars of his assets and transferring $40 million to his three children.
The Centre owes national carrier Air India Rs 451.75 crore on account of VVIP flights. Bills for flights taken by the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, as well as special missions, are yet to be settled, an RTI enquiry has revealed. This, despite the civil aviation minister and ministry officials writing 31 letters between 2014 and 2017 to various ministries, asking for timely payments.
