US President Donald Trump yesterday signed the ‘buy American, hire American’ executive order to protect American jobs. The order effectively raises the bar for foreign guest workers used by US and Indian companies to do work that American workers were thought to be unwilling or unable to do. The move is expected to moderately affect the Indian IT industry.

Petrol pumps in eight states will remain closed every Sunday from May 14 to conserve oil. Nearly 20,000 outlets in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Haryana would be shut every Sunday. The decision was made by the consortium of petroleum dealers following PM Narendra Modi’s call during his recent ‘Mann ki baat’ programme to conserve oil and save the environment.
TN CM Edappadi Palaniswami has decided to boot out Sasikala and her nephew to reunite the two AIADMK factions. The move to ‘distance’ the Mannargudi family came after the Delhi police filed an FIR against Dhinakaran for trying to bribe officials to get back AIADMK’s ‘two leaves’ symbol which has been frozen by the EC. The Tamil Nadu ruling party had split into two factions following J Jayalalithaa’s death last year.

Sri Lanka has decided to allow India to jointly develop the Trincomalee port to balance out China. Sri Lanka is finding it difficult to wriggle out of China’s clutches because of the massive debt it owes to Beijing but to balance things out, it is now set to allow India to jointly develop the Trincomalee port in northeastern part of the country.
Former Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely joined the BJP yesterday ahead of the MCD elections in the capital. “I am pained and angry at the way I have been treated by the party (Congress) in which I worked for 31 years. I could not tolerate more humiliation,” Lovely said after pledging his unconditional support to BJP in front of party president Amit Shah.
