Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said he was ready for a alliance against the ‘propaganda of the saffron brigade’. Akhilesh said he had met a host of senior leaders of opposition parties for an anti-BJP alliance and held “positive discussions” in this regard. “In case of a gathbandhan, Samajwadi Party will play a role with all responsibility,” he said. Akhilesh’s statement came a day after BSP supremo Mayawati had hinted that she was prepared to ally with any party to fight the BJP.

The Supreme Court collegium headed by CJI J S Khehar recommended 51 names for judges in 10 high courts. Of the 51 names, Bombay high court got the lion’s share of 14 names. The Punjab and Haryana high court, which has a vacancy of 39 against a sanctioned strength of 85, accounted for nine names.The collegium recommended six names each for appointment as judges to Patna high court and Telangana and Andhra Pradesh high court. Four names each have been recommended for the Delhi high court and Chhattisgarh high court.
North Korea failed in the new missile launch on Sunday. A Mumbai court issued statement against Sanjay Dutt for non-appearance in the court. Dutt, however, attributed his non-appearance before the court to a “communication lapse” between his counsel and those of Shakeel Noorani and vowed to “rectify the situation.” Noorani had filed a private complaint before the court after a police station refused to take action on a complaint filed which alleged that underworld men, on behalf of Sanjay Dutt, were threatening him.
