The EC cancelled an April 12 bypoll in Tamil Nadu over the use of money power. Searches on the premises of an associate of Vijayabaskar (Sasikala faction) revealed that Rs 89 crore were “distributed to voters” in the RK Nagar Assembly constituency that was scheduled to have a bypoll later this week. The EC said the bypoll will be held in “due course when the vitiating effect created by the distribution of money and gift items to allure the electors…gets removed with the passage of time”.
