The external affairs ministry (MEA) is taking India’s foreign policy to students across the country. Under a programme called SAMEEP – Students and MEA Engagement Programme – the ministry has asked all its officers on leave to travel to their hometown and their alma mater to explain to students what kind of work they do. The ministry wants students to understand how India engages with the world and how diplomacy is conducted.
A parliamentary panel has slammed the government for not adequately modernising the military. The Army, Navy and Air Force received paltry funds in the 2017-18 budget &ndash; not enough to modernise. The Rs 2.74 lakh crore defence outlay worked out to just 1.56 per cent of the projected GDP.
