Pakistani fighter jets flew near the Siachen Glacier today, Pakistani media reported. The Indian Air Force sources, however, said there was no violation of India’s air space. Pakistan’s Chief of Air Staff Sohail Aman visited the forward airbase in Skardu today and flew a Mirage jet, the report said. The report of Pakistani jets flying near Siachen came a day after the Indian Army announced that it had launched “punitive fire assaults” on Pakistani positions across the Line of Control earlier this month, inflicting some damage.

The income tax department issued summons to Lalu’s daughter Misa and her husband. The I-T summons come days after the arrest of chartered accountant Rajesh Kumar Agrawal in connection with an Enforcement Directorate probe into a Rs 8,000 crore money laundering racket involving two Delhi-based businessmen and a few political entities. The chartered accountant is also associated with some transactions involving a firm, allegedly linked to Misa, which is under the scanner for suspected tax evasion.
Spain’s Supreme Court confirmed Lionel Messi’s sentence for tax fraud. Months after the Barcelona football star lodged an appeal, the apex court confirmed a 21-month jail sentence and two-million-euro ($2.2-million) fine imposed on him. The Argentina international and his father Jorge Horacio Messi were in July 2016 found guilty of using companies in Belize, Britain, Switzerland and Uruguay to avoid paying taxes on 4.16 million euros of Messi’s income earned from his image rights from 2007-09.

Taiwan became first country in Asia to recognize same-sex marriage. In a first for Asia, Taiwan’s constitutional court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage today, punctuating years-long campaign by advocates for gay rights in one of the continent’s most liberal democracies. In its majority opinion, the court said a provision in the current civil code barring same-sex marriages violated two articles of the constitution safeguarding human dignity and equality under the law.
The income tax department identified over 400 benami transactions today. “Provisional attachment of properties under the law has been done in more than 240 cases. The market value of properties under attachment is more than Rs 600 crore,” the department said. Benami property includes movable or immovable, tangible or intangible, corporeal or incorporeal property which is in name of someone other than the beneficial owner.
