The Indian Army killed 138 Pakistan Army personnel in 2017 along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, government intelligence sources said. The Indian Army lost 28 soldiers during the same period along the LoC, the sources said. A total of 70 Indian Army personnel were injured during cross border firings and other incidents. According to official figures, 860 incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops were reported in 2017 as against 221 last year.

The Unique Identification Authority of India has introduced the concept of ‘Virtual ID’ to address privacy concerns. Aadhaar-card holder can generate the ‘Virtual ID’ from its website and give for various purposes, including SIM verification, instead of sharing the actual 12-digit biometric ID. This will give the users the option of not sharing their Aadhaar number at the time of authentication.
Malaysia has signed $70 million deal with a US firm to find the missing Malaysia Airlines aircraft MH370. The Supreme Court said it would constitute a fresh three-member SIT to monitor probe into 186 anti-Sikh riot cases. These cases, which have not yet been investigated by a Centre-appointed SIT, will be sent for further investigation to a new SIT headed by a retired high court judge.
