Modi govt’s J&K policy has created space for Pakistan to misbehave, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has said. Modi has created an environment in Jammu and Kashmir of hatred and anger, and the only people who benefit from violence are the Pakistanis, Rahul said, adding that their (Congress leaders’) efforts of 10 years were “destroyed by Modi in one month”. His attack on the government comes a day after the PM, in his Independence Day address, reached out to the Kashmiris, saying abuses and bullets would not resolve their problems but embracing them would.

The government has issued a notice to smartphone makers, including Chinese companies over hacking fears. The government fears hacking at the hands of mobile phone makers, mostly Chinese (such as Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi and Gionee), as they are believed to be stealing personal information of users such as contact lists and messages. Other non-Chinese companies such as Apple, Samsung and Indian makers like Micromax are also among the 21 companies that have been sent a notice by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
The Supreme Court has asked the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe Kerala’s ‘love jihad’ case. The apex court also ordered that the NIA probe will be supervised by former SC judge Justice RV Raveendran. The Kerala government said that if the apex court wants an NIA probe, it has no objections. The Court also said that after getting inputs from the NIA and Kerala police probe, it would interview Akhila (the Hindu woman who converted to Islam for marrying a Muslim man) to ascertain her views.

Defence canteen, India’s top retailer is now planning to go online. The Canteen Stores Department (CSD) – which supplies goods at concessional rates to defence personnel – is putting in place systems to ensure that its 1.2 crore customers get to purchase the latest fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) off its Unit Retail Canteen (URC) shelve. The country’s largest retail network is also working with partner companies on a model that would reduce the time lag and inconvenience involved in the purchase of white goods.
Melbourne is the most liveable city in the world, a survey has revealed. No Indian city was ranked in the top ten or bottom ten in the most liveable city ranking, according to the Global Liveability Report compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). Other most liveable cities include Austrian capital, Vienna in the second and Canada’s Vancouver in the third place. The least liveable city was Damascus at 140th place. EIU noted that overall, the global average liveability score has fallen 0.8 per cent to 74.8 per cent over the past five years.
