| Fugitive businessman Nirav Modi has written to the CBI expressing inability to face the law in India. He said the agency, with its seizures, had taken away his fundamental right to defend himself, making him “handicapped” to share any information with the investigators. Under proposed laws, projects up to 50,000 sq metres will not require prior ‘environmental clearance.’ However environmentalists voiced concerns that this would give a free pass to builders who could easily misuse the norms for constructing shopping malls and multiplexes. |

| M Natarajan, husband of jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala, died early this morning. The 74-year-old underwent a dual organ transplant in October last year. He was admitted to the ICU on March 16 following severe chest infection. He was on ventilator support. Doctors said he underwent a tracheostomy on Monday. |
