The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has allowed Made in India aircrafts to be used for commercial flights on regional routes. The aircrafts manufactured by Indian company Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) were only used by defence forces till now. The DGCA gave certification to HAL’s Dornier 228, a 19-seater aircraft. Now, HAL can sell this plane to airlines in India and it can be used by them for regional flights under the PM Modi’s ambitious UDAN scheme, said an official. Read

With the closure of 84 outlets on Monday, over half of McDonald’s restaurants have shut down in North & East India. The outlets are shutting down due to a fallout between the company and McDonald’s supply chain partner Radhakrishna Foodland due to an alleged non-payment of dues by Connaught Plaza Restaurants (CPRL), a 50:50 joint venture between franchise partner Vikram Bakshi and McDonald’s. The closure of outlets is also expected to put pressure on Bakshi to sell out to the global burger giant.
