Rahul Gandhi today said that he will become the Prime Minister if Congress bags maximum seats in 2019 Lok Sabha polls. “If the Congress party is the biggest party, yes,” said Rahul to a question on his PM aspiration during an interaction with prominent personalities in Bengaluru as part of the launch of Samruddhi Bharat conference. Rahul also said BJP would not win the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and Prime Minister Narendra Modi might lose from Varanasi as he will not be able to face a ‘united’ Opposition. Read

Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un met in China today in an unannounced visit by the North Korean leader ahead of summit with US President Donald Trump. Chinese state broadcaster CCTV showed Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un taking a seaside stroll in the northeastern city of Dalian and holding talks, while the official Xinhua news agency said the two leaders met yesterday and today. Shortly after the meeting was made public, Donald Trump tweeted that he would speak to his “friend” Xi about North Korea later today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked his team to figure out how many jobs were created in the four years of his rule. Ministries have been instructed to come up with a detailed note on the projects and programmes undertaken by them and calculate the jobs they helped generate, according to people familiar with the matter. They were also asked to measure the impact of various programs on GDP growth, said the people, who asked not to be identified, citing rules.

Ajinkya Rahane has been confirmed as India’s captain for the one-off Test match against Afghanistan in Bengaluru next month. Virat Kohli leads the T20I and ODI squads, but having opted to play county cricket for the month of June with Surrey, Ajinkya Rahane will lead India in Afghanistan’s debut Test from June 14. Rahane, however, has been left out from the ODI squad for England series, along with spinner Axar Patel.
Kapil Sibal withdrew the plea challenging Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu’s rejection of impeachment motion against CJI Dipak Misra from the Supreme Court. The petition was filed by two Congress Rajya Sabha MPs – Partap Singh Bajwa from Punjab and Amee Harshadray Yajnik from Gujarat – challenging the vice-president’s decision to nix the bid to impeach the Chief Justice. A five-judge bench of Justices A K Sikri, SA Bobde, N V Ramana, Arun K Mishra and Adarsh K Girl dismissed the petition as withdrawn.
