The Army ‘very recently’ destroyed Pakistani military posts in Rajouri. The Army said it used punitive artillery assaults, to give “a befitting reply to the Pakistan military which aids infiltration into the Indian side” in Jammu and Kashmir. The government has strongly backed Army’s action of destroying Pakistani posts to counter terrorism in the valley. Union Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said such actions are needed to ensure peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

A Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force went missing. The aircraft, with two pilots on board, went missing after it lost contact with radar in Assam’s Tezpur area, near China border. The plane had taken off from the airbase at 10.30 am for a regular sortie and lost contact with the IAF air traffic control over Dubia in nearby Gohpur. The Sukhoi Su-30 is a Russian-made, twin-engine fighter meant for all-weather, air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.
Pakistan asked the International Court of Justice to hold an early hearing in Jadhav case. Pakistani media reported that its foreign office has sent a letter to the Hague-based ICJ’s registrar, expressing Pakistan’s desire for a quick hearing, preferably over the next few weeks. The request was made in view of the upcoming elections for ICJ judges, scheduled to be held in November. The report comes just days after ICJ stayed Jadhav’s execution and also endorsed the Indian request for consular access to him.

The Army officer who used a man as human shield in Kashmir said he saved at least 12 lives by doing so. “At least 12 or more lives would have been lost had I fired. There would have been many casualties,” Major Leetul Gogoi said today. Major Gogoi was criticised by many across the country for tying an alleged stone-pelter to the bonnet of a jeep to use him as shield against those pelting stones during a bypoll in J&K. The attacker behind Manchester terror attack died at the site, British Police said. “The priority is to establish whether he was acting alone or as part of a network. The attacker, I can confirm, died at the arena. We believe the attacker was carrying an improvised explosive device which he detonated causing this atrocity,” A British police official said. Another suspect has been arrested after ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack . 22 people, including some children, were killed in a suicide attack carried out by one man at singer Ariana Grande’s concert in Manchester last night.
