PM Modi remains ‘by far’ the most popular figure in Indian politics, a survey has said. The Pew survey was conducted between February 21 and March 10 this year. According to the survey, PM Modi at 88% is 30 points ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi (58%), and 31 points ahead of Congress president Sonia Gandhi (57%). Pew said the public’s “positive assessment” of PM Modi is buoyed by “growing contentment” with the Indian economy. Read more

Pakistan has rejected China’s offer of assistance for the $14-billion Diamer-Bhasha Dam. Islamabad is learnt to have asked China to take the project out of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The project is located in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), which is claimed by India. The Asian Development Bank had earlier refused to finance the project because it was to come up in a disputed territory.
Islamic State has urged sympathisers to carry out lone-wolf attacks on Kumbh, Kerala fest. A recent audio clip transmitted via Telegram app by an IS recruiter has raised fears about lone-wolf strikes as the tape calls for attacks on Hindu religious congregations such as Kumbh or the Thrissur Pooram. The IS recruiter is from Kasargod and asks Indian Muslims to launch attacks by driving a truck through devotees or poisoning food.
