Nitish Kumar will be taking oath as the chief minister of Bihar at 10am. Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi will be sworn-in as the deputy CM. The JD(U)-BJP combine will return to power after four years in Bihar. A list of 132 MLAs supporting the alliance was submitted to the governor late on Wednesday. These include 71 of JD(U), BJP 53, RLSP 2, LJP 2, HAM 1 and three Independents. The development has left RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav out of government and his father and party chief Lalu Prasad emasculated. It would be Nitish Kumar’s 6th term as chief minister.

The death toll due to heavy rains and floods in Gujarat has touched to 119. BJP president Amit Shah will contest Rajya Sabha poll from Gujarat on August 8. With this, he will make his debut in Parliament. Shah is currently a sitting MLA from Naranpura in Ahmedabad. I&B and textiles minister Smriti Irani will be BJP’s other Rajya Sabha nominee from Gujarat. Irani’s tenure as an MP of the Upper House ends on August 18. Health minister J P Nadda made the announcements after the party’s parliamentary board meeting on Wednesday.
