Goa court charged former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal with sexual assault. Tarun Tejpal is accused of raping his junior colleague in 2013. 54-year-old Tejpal pleaded not guilty and claimed trial. The next hearing in the case in the district court has been fixed on November 21. Read more

Former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav invited Mulayam Singh to upcoming SP meet. Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday met his father, Mulayam Singh Yadav, with whom he has been fighting a bitter battle, and invited him to the national executive meeting to be held on October 5. Mulayam and his brother Shivpal Yadav were not invited to the party’s state executive meet held in Lucknow on September 23.

Congress veteran Makhan Lal Fotedar passed away in Gurugram. The leader was a close confidante of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Fotedar was a former member of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and represented the Pahalgam constituency from 1967 to 1977. He was a two-time Rajya Sabha member and a former Union minister.
Rescued from Islamic State, Kerala priest Father Tom Uzhunnalil met PM Modi and Sushma Swaraj. Father Uzhunnalil was abducted on March 4, 2016, reportedly in an incident of terrorist attack in Aden, Yemen. He was released on Septembet 12, 2017. He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in Delhi and thanked them for their support.
