Narendra Modi and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe today laid the foundation stone for India’s first bullet train project. PM Modi described the ambitious Rs 1.10 lakh crore project, which will cut travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad from seven hours to less than three, as a “big gift from Japan to India”. Addressing the event in Ahmedabad, Abe said the India-Japan partnership was special, strategic and global.

India and Japan today agreed to strengthen cooperation against Pakistan-based terror groups like JeM and LeT. In what appeared to be a reference to Pakistan, Narendra Modi and Shinzo Abe, in their joint statement, called upon all countries to work towards rooting out terrorist safe havens and infrastructure, disrupting terrorist networks and financing channels and halting cross-border movement of terrorists.

The government has invited bids to appoint two financial advisors and one legal advisor for the privatisation of Air India. One of the notices issued by the government lists that it “requires the services of reputed law firms with experience and expertise in mergers and acquisitions/takeovers/strategic disinvestment/private equity transaction to act as legal adviser and assist government in the process”.
The Madras high court today ordered that no floor test would be conducted in the Tamil Nadu assembly till September 20. Justice M Duraiswamy passed the order as the speaker informed the court that he was not in a position to tell whether he would pass orders in the disqualification proceedings against 19 rebel AIADMK MLAs before a floor test is conducted.
