Stricter rules are in the offing to protect people from misleading advertisements, PM Modi said. Stressing that “consumer protection” is one of the priorities of his government, the Prime Minister stated that a Central Consumer Protection Authority with executive powers will be constituted for quick remedial action. He ensured that the new law will replace the Consumer Protection Act 1986, and will instead incorporate the revised 2015 UN guidelines on consumer protection. Read.

The National Investigation Agency filed a chargesheet against Zakir Naik for allegedly inciting youth to take up terror activities. The 51-year-old televangelist, who is currently abroad, is being probed under terror and money-laundering charges by the NIA. He has been accused of spreading hatred by his provocative speeches, funding terrorists and laundering several crores of rupees over the years.
Pakistani court today issued an arrest warrant against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Sharif, who has been indicted in three corruption cases over concealing assets abroad, has skipped several court hearings so far. Under Pakistani law, Sharif can be arrested as soon as he returns from abroad unless he is granted bail before the next hearing.
