The Rajya Sabha was once again adjourned without discussion on the Triple Talaq Bill. The Opposition stuck to its demand of sending the Bill to a select committee. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley stuck to his accusation of Congress sabotaging the Bill. The House has been adjourned till 11am tomorrow. Read more

Pakistan today released a ‘confessional’ video of Kulbhushan Jadhav. India responded by calling the stunt an exercise in state propaganda which lacks any credibility, and that Pakistan is ‘continuing the practice of putting out coerced statements’. The Pakistan Foreign Office had earlier released a video in which Jadhav is seen confessing that he was a commissioned officer of the Indian Navy.
Lalu Prasad’s sentencing was postponed for second day in a row. The judge in the second fodder scam case in which Lalu Prasad has been convicted said today, after sentencing was postponed yet again, that he “got phone calls from Lalu’s men.” Judge Shivpal Singh didn’t specify what was said to him in these phone calls “by Lalu’s men”.

Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani and student leader Umar Khalid were today denied permission to address an event in Mumbai. Juhu police has issued a notice to Chatra Bharti under Section 141 of the CRPC. The notice states that permission was denied for the event in the context of the Maharashtra bandh. Jignesh Mevani, student activists Umar Khalid and Richa Singh, and MLC Kapil Patil were to be part of the All India Students Summit 2018, an event organised by students’ group Chatra Bharati.
