A CBI court has acquitted all the accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam on Thursday. The Special CBI judge OP Saini acquitted all the 19 accused, including former telecom minister A Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi, of all the charges in the Rs 30,000 crore scam. According to the defence counsel Vijay Aggarwal, the court while passing the judgement said that the prosecution has miserably failed to prove any of its charge. The verdict has led to a war of words between BJP and Congress. “Today’s judgment is a very bad judgement. This must be appealed in higher court,” said BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. Read

India’s IT industry has joined hands with China to establish an e-platform for business opportunities. The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) announced the decision after entering into the agreement with the Chinese authorities to establish an e-platform which will help about 25 Indian firms to find business contracts in China. The collaboration has come at a time when the Indian companies are facing receding business opportunities in the US which is the biggest market for India.
Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli has dethroned Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan to become India’s most valuable celebrity. With a celebrity value of $143 million, Kohli along with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh led the ascent of millennials to the top of the rankings, said the report by corporate advisers Duff & Phelps. Shah Rukh Khan held this title of the country’s most valuable celebrity brand from the year 2014. Badminton player PV Sindhu also made an entry into the ranking at 15th number. This is the first time a female sportsperson has made it to the top 15.

A ruckus in the Rajya Sabha did not let Rajya Sabha MP and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar speak in the house on Thursday. Before Tendulkar could stand up to begin the discussion, the Congress leaders started protesting, demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologise for insinuating that his predecessor Manmohan Singh is colluding with Pakistan. This was Sachin’s maiden speech in which he was expected to address some long pending issues including coverage of Central Health Guarantee Scheme (CGHS) for international medal winners and incorporation of sports in school curriculum.
The Centre is expected to increase funding for the farm and rural sector in the budget for the coming fiscal year. The move has come to gather support in the countryside ahead of the 2019 national elections. The Centre is expected to offer higher procurement prices for different crops to farmers following a lower output this year. The step to lure the rural sector has come after the BJP failed to gather rural votes despite winning the Gujarat Assembly elections.
