Prime Minister Narendra Modi today arrived in Washington for his first bilateral meeting with the US President Donald Trump. The PM will interact with about 20 leading American CEOs followed by an Indian-American community event in the DC suburb of Virginia. Trump will host Modi at the White House on Monday afternoon and the two leaders would spend about five hours together in various settings beginning with their bilateral discussion, delegation level talks, a reception and a working dinner, the first of its kind hosted by this administration.

India women’s cricket team defeated England by 35 runs in opening match of the ICC Women’s World Cup. It is India’s first win over England in five years as they had all lost all six previous matches to the hosts. Government gave its ‘in-principle approval’ for the construction of a green field airport at Jewar, located in Gautam Budh Nagar district. The new facility will be the second international airport to serve the catchment areas of the National Capital Region (NCR). “Noida International Airport will cater to 30-50 million passengers per year over the next 10-15 years,” civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju said at a press briefing.

The NDA’s presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind will begin his campaign today from Uttar Pradesh. Kovind’s visit to Uttar Pradesh, which has the highest value of each vote in the presidential election, is part of his nation-wide tour during which he will talk to members of the electoral college that votes for the new president. At least 15 people were killed and over 100 remained missing as landslide buried a mountain village in China. The landslide, apparently triggered by a mild earthquake in the area, engulfed 62 homes and a hotel in Xinmo Village in Maoxian County in southwest China’s Sichuan Province. Nearly 2,000 rescuers, including soldiers, frantically scoured through the mud and rocks to find survivors.
