India is chasing a target of 339 for victory in the Champions Trophy final against Pakistan. Openers Azhar Ali and Fakhar Zaman set Pakistan off to a solid start, putting up 128 for the first wicket. Shuttler Kidambi Srikanth clinched his third Super Series title, lifting the Indonesia Open men’s singles trophy. He got the better of his 47th ranked Japanese opponent Kazumasa Sakai in straight games 21-11, 21-19, in just 37 minutes. Srikanth played a patient game, dictated the pace and didn’t allow the Japanese to engage in fast-paced rallies.
The GST council has fixed the tax rates for hotels, restaurants and lotteries. The council fixed tax rate of 18 per cent for hotel rooms between Rs 2,000 and Rs 7,500. Rooms with tariff above Rs 7,500 will attract 28 per cent tax. The rate on state-run lottery will be 12 per cent while government-authorised private lottery will draw 28 per cent tax.

The Election Commission has directed FIR to be registered against Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi Palaniswami. FIRs have also been ordered against health minister C Vijayabaskar, AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran and others in connection to the RK Nagar bypoll bribery case. The Commission has put the bypoll on hold over the bribery allegations.
A forest fire raging since Saturday in central Portugal has killed at least 62 people. An official said most of the victims were caught in their vehicles on the road. The blaze on Saturday hit a mountainous area 200 km northheast of Lisbon, amid an intense heat wave and rainless thunderstorms. Police said a lightning striking a tree probably caused the fire.
