PM Narendra Modi said justice should be done to Muslim women on the triple talaq issue. If there are social evils, the society should be woken up and efforts made to provide justice to the victims, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari quoted the PM as saying. The PM, however, made it clear that there should not be any conflict in the Muslim community over this issue. Earlier in the day, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had said, those who give triple talaq without reasons prescribed by the Sharia (religious law) will face social boycott.

Indian shuttler B Sai Praneeth clinched his maiden Super Series title at Singapore Open. Praneeth clinched the Super Series title at the Singapore Open after defeating compatriot K Srikanth in a historic all-Indian final today. “It’s always difficult to play someone with whom you play everyday. Telangana assembly passed the bill to increase the reservation for backward Muslims and the Scheduled Tribes. CM K Chandrasekhar Rao moved the bill to raise from the existing four per cent to 12 per cent the quota for the socially and economically backward among the Muslims under the Backward Classes (E) category. The reservations for the Scheduled Tribes in educational institutions and government jobs has been increased from 6 per cent to 10 per cent. Barring the BJP, the entire Opposition supported the Bill, which will be now debated and passed by the state legislative council.

Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad airports have been put on hijack alert. According to the information received, the hijacks will be carried out by a team of 23 people.
