India has set the world record by cooking about 918kgs khichdi dish at the World Food India event in Delhi. A team led by renowned chef Sanjeev Kapoor cooked khichdi in an attempt to enter the Guinness World Records and promote the dish as Brand India superfood. The dish – which was prepared using multigrains like rice, pulses, coarse cereals and vegetables – will be distributed to orphans by Akshaya Patra Foundation and Gurudwara. Read

Niti Aayog has envisaged a New India by 2022 which will be free from poverty, dirt, corruption, terrorism and communalism. India will be in the top three economies of the world if it continues to grow at 8% from now until 2047, according to the New India 2022 document presented by Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar at Conference of Governors last month. The document visualises that government will be able to connect all villages with habitations over 500 (250 in Special Areas) with all-weather roads by 2019 under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

Ajmeri Abdul Rashid, a key accused in the Akshardham temple terror attack case was arrested today. Ajmeri was in Riyadh and had allegedly been involved in the Akshardham terror attack conspiracy. He came to Ahmedabad in the early hours today and was immediately arrested by the Ahmedabad crime branch. His brother Ajmeri Adam was acquitted after his conviction in a lower court was struck down by the Supreme Court in 2014.
Lebanese prime minister Saad al-Hariri resigned today, saying he sensed a plot to target his life. “We are living in a climate similar to the atmosphere that prevailed before the assassination of (his father the late prime minister) martyr Rafik al-Hariri. I have sensed what is being plotted covertly to target my life,” Hariri said. In his statement, Hariri said Iran was “losing in its interference in the affairs of the Arab world”, adding that Lebanon would “rise as it had done in the past” and “cut off the hands that wickedly extend into it”.
