Assam has recognized 1.9 crore people as legal citizens in its first draft of National Register of Citizens. Out of the total 3.29 crore applicants, 1.9 crore were registered and the rest of the names are under various stages of verification. A section of BJP is keen to ally with actor Rajinikanth who yesterday announced to launch his own political party. Top BJP members gave indications about joining hands with Rajinikanth as Modi had called on the actor during a visit to Tamil Nadu last month. After the death of BJP’s old associate and former CM Jayalalitha, BJP has remained uncertain about its options to enter Tamil Nadu politics. After PM Narendra Modi’s recent visit to DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, there was speculation on whether BJP would ally with the party.
No prospect of a cricket series between India and Pakistan with high incidents of cross-border firing by Pakistan, Sushma Swaraj has said. The foreign minister was responding to a query whether restarting the cricket matches could ease tensions between the two countries. Swaraj said there had been suggestions on humanitarian lines such as release of women and elderly detainees and prisoners. However, the high number of cross-border firings did not set the tone for engagements such as a cricket series.

Operations at Delhi’s IGI airport have been suspended after visibility drops below 50 metres The dense fog delayed five domestic and seven international flights. One flight was cancelled. This has come a day after the city experienced the season’s worst fog, that affected almost 220 flights to and from Delhi. Over 150 flights were delayed and nearly 50 diverted on Sunday. Additionally, around 20 flights were cancelled due to low visibility on the runway. No flights could take off from Delhi for nearly four hours between 7.30am and 11.05am, said an airport official.
